How to install Taros using Google Tag Manager

Already using GTM to manage your scripts? Here's how to add Taros to your site without touching any code.

If you manage your website scripts through Google Tag Manager, you can install the Taros widget without editing your site's HTML at all. The whole process takes about two minutes.

What you need

  • A Taros account with a paid plan
  • An AI assistant set up and trained in your Taros dashboard
  • A Google Tag Manager account connected to your website

Step 1: Copy your embed code

In your Taros dashboard, go to your assistant's Widget Customizer. Copy the embed code at the bottom. It looks like this:

Step 2: Create a new tag in GTM

1. Open Google Tag Manager and select your container

2. Go to Tags and click New

3. Name it something like "Taros Chat Widget"

4. Under Tag Configuration, choose Custom HTML

5. Paste your Taros embed code into the HTML field

Step 3: Set the trigger

1. Under Triggering, click to add a trigger

2. Select All Pages — this loads the widget on every page of your site

3. If you only want the widget on specific pages, create a custom trigger with a Page Path condition instead

Step 4: Publish

1. Click Save on the tag

2. Click Submit in the top right corner of GTM

3. Add a version name (e.g. "Added Taros chat widget") and click Publish

The widget is now live on your site.

Test it

Before publishing, you can use GTM's Preview mode to verify the tag fires correctly. Click Preview, enter your website URL, and check that the Taros chat bubble appears on the page.

After publishing, open your site in an incognito window and send a test message to confirm everything works.

Don't forget: allowed domains

Back in your Taros dashboard, make sure your website's domain is added to your assistant's allowed websites list. This prevents your widget from being used on unauthorized sites.

Why use GTM?

If you're already using Google Tag Manager for analytics, marketing pixels, or other scripts, adding Taros through GTM keeps everything in one place. You can update, pause, or remove the widget without asking a developer to touch your site's code.

It also makes it easy to control where the widget appears — want it on your support pages but not your checkout? Just adjust the trigger.
